Benedict, died early Sunday morning in a local hospital. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, in Gaskill Funeral Chapel. Rev. Charles Crane of Seminole will officiate, and burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery at Seminole. Laviness a pumper for Texas Oil Company, was born June 19, 1904 in Lima, Ohio. He moved to Drumright in 1907 and lived in Seminole 22 years before coming to Shawnee in 1950. A member of the Church of God, he had been with Texas Oil Company for 38 years. He and Mrs. Laviness were married February 25, 1926 in Drumright. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Elsie Laviness, of the home; two sons W. D. Laviness, 901 E. Buck, and D. R. Laviness, Broken Arrow; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Lee Wall, 4 Seneca Drive, and Mrs. Debra Knoles, Shawnee; a brother Melvin Laviness, Ada; a sister Mrs. Winona Huntsinger, Stanford, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. Bearers will be Cecil Johnson, Dave Roberts, Les Richardson, V. B. Jones, Cletus Crosby, and Fred Camp. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He was buried on 10 Nov 1965 in Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, Seminole Co., OK. He was educated in Drumright, Creek Co., OK. He was married to Elsie Pearl Hiland (daughter of Emery Allen "Oscar" Hiland and Etta May Rogers) on 25 Feb 1927 in Drumright, Creek Co., OK. They were married by Rev. Robert W. Lackey of the Missionary Baptist Church in Drumright, OK. Elsie Pearl Hiland was born on 28 Sep 1906 in Jennings, Pawnee Co., OK. She resided at 710 S. Benedict St. between 1954 and 1972 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., OK. She died on 1 Oct 1993 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., OK.
